Paul Hockenos The Germany expert from the USA

Paul Hockenos is a US correspondent and celebrated book author who knows Germany like few outsiders.

Born on 31 July 1963, US political scientist, journalist and publicist Paul Hockenos' countless publications and books testify to his great openness to the world, wide-ranging interests and extremely differentiated approach to all aspects of human existence - political, economic, sociological and ecological. He is particularly interested in the political issues of Europe after the collapse of the Soviet Union and the challenges associated with it.

It is certainly no exaggeration to claim that Paul Hockenos has understood the "European phenomenon" as comprehensively as hardly anyone else. His talent for understanding social events as multidimensional processes has been demonstrated several times in the past: From 1997 to 1999 he worked for the Organisation for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) in Bosnia and Herzegovina and from 2003 to 2004 he was involved in the European Stability Initiative (ESI) in Kosovo.

For five years, he was the editor responsible for the content of the journal "Internationale Politik - Global Edition" and the associated internet portal of the German Council on Foreign Relations (DGAP). His journalistic career is lined with an illustrious series of renowned newspapers and journals: international reference organs such as The New York Times, Newsweek, In These Times, The Christian Science Monitor, World Policy Journal, Boston Review, The Nation, New Statesman, Foreign Policy, Society, The Village Voice can be found among them as well as Die Tageszeitung, Der Spiegel and the Heinrich Böll Foundation. Paul Hockenos is currently The Chronicle of Higher Education's correspondent in Germany. He lives in New York City and Berlin.
